Today I retrofitted a marine type oil cooler onto the CA18DET. This type of cooler transfers heat from the oil to the coolant system by installing inline of the cold outlet line on the radiator. Since my car has more than enough cooling with a colder thermostat and the koyo radiator, this system should work really well in keeping the oil temperatures consistent. I will write a full install guide once I fully test the system.
- This is the marine type oil cooler that installs in the radiator cold pipe. It is a copper unit with 1-1/4" coolant inlet / outlets and 5/8" oil inlet / outlet.
- The oil cooler is painted with a black engine enamel to protect the copper.
- Coolant flows through the 1-1/4" ports.
- Oil flows through the 5/8" ports.
- The lower (cold) radiator hose is cut so that the oil cooler can be installed.
- The oil cooler installs inline with the radiator hose.
