I am beginning to focus on a little bit more weight reduction on the 240sx and the vented power steering delete kit works so well on the MR2 Spyder, I decided to make a kit for the 240sx.

I will post a clearer picture later but basically, this system uses gravity to maintain fluid in the rack while allowing excess pressure to escape.

I finally finished my “little” test with the MR2 Spyder so back to the 240sx rebuild. Today I sanded, cleaned and rust proofed the steering rack. I also cut the power steering hard lines to make room for the new vented manual steering conversion.

I didn’t get a whole lot done per se but I did complete a major change to the rear suspension. The solid subframe bushings were installed and the subframe was reattached to the car. Of course, this entailed a significant amount of test fitting and adjusting as the bushings didn’t quite work in their unmodified form.

It’s been a few days but I finally had a few hours to work yesterday. I removed the factory bushings from the subframe and the diff and fully disassembled the rear suspension from the frame.

More miscellaneous gutting today. Removed the fuel tank, pump and fuel lines. Finished gutting the trunk and dropped the subframe.

The trunk lid, rear brakes and rear coilovers were removed today as well as the whole front suspension assembly.
